My name is Meg Wilhoite, and this blog is where I and the occasional guest writer discuss music in general, and the “new music” scene in particular. What do I mean by “new music,” you ask? Well, basically all that avant-garde, difficult-to-pin-a-genre-to music that’s being created and performed right now, and mostly underground: that is, well beyond the notice of the general American public. (Akin to the new music scene is the indie scene, and indeed many creators/performers of new music are or have been also creators/performers of indie music.) MNMB is intended to promote discussion of this vibrant and cutting-edge scene.
I have degrees in music theory, I’ve been “classically trained” at the organ and piano, and I play keyboard and sing in Faulkner Detectives (indie-rockish band). My main site has everything I am up to lately, which you can find here. You can also find me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter. I run two other blogs: kleineKultur: culture and music events in NYC, and Music Theory and Interpol: analysis of the indie band’s music.
